There’s an acute need for affordable housing in Bromley. Based on the 2021 London Plan, Bromley planning authority has a ten-year target of 7,740 net completions between 2019/20 and 2028/29. As part of this commitment, Bromley Council is proposing 44 new affordable homes on Poverest Road as part of the ‘Bromley Homes for Bromley People’ programme.
The plans involve demolishing the current Bromley Adult Education Centre, known as BAEC – The Poverest Centre.. The building has specialist facilities for cooking, craft, drama/dance and horticulture classes. Replacement courses will be provided at the Kentwood Centre in Penge.
Bromley Council will hold engagement sessions for local residents regarding the future of Poverest Adult Education Centre at Poverest Primary School on the following dates;
- Monday 27 October: 11am to 4pm
- Wednesday 29 October: 5pm to 7pm
- Saturday 1 November: 9am to 12pm

Bromley Council submitted a tender on 22/04/25 for an architect-led multi-disciplinary consultant team to provide design and technical services to support the delivery of this scheme. Comprising the following services;

- Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Engineer (MEP) consultant
- Civils and Structural Engineer
- Planning Consultant (RTPI Accredited)
- Transport Consultant
- Ecologist (including surveys as required)
- Acoustic Consultant (including surveys as required)
The tender value was £1,800,000 excluding VAT, or £2,160,000 including VAT, with the contract awarded to POLLARD THOMAS EDWARDS LLP.
