We don’t have an exact date for the centre’s reopening, but Bromley Council confirmed it will reopen sometime in mid-November. The reopening restores full access to one of Bromley’s main recycling centres. Welcome news after a temporary closure lasting more than 18 months.
If you’re across any of the Bromley Facebook groups or the r/Bromley subreddit, you’ll have seen all the fly-tipping complaints from residents. It’s been an issue since the initial closure of Waldo Road at the start of 2025.
Waldo Road Reuse and Recycling Centre closed to residents on 3 February 2025 to allow major works to take place across the depot. Works were aimed at improving the site’s drainage system and fire prevention methods. Good timing, with the increase in fires at refuse sites and recycling centres across the country.
Waldo Road also operates as a key waste transfer station for the borough. The site processes waste and recycling from homes and businesses across Bromley before transporting elsewhere.
Timeline of events
The centre closed in February 2025, with a stated reopening date of March 2026. The original estimate for the completion of works at Waldo Road was 13 months. If the site reopens in mid-November, it’ll have been closed for a total of 21 months.

Temporary recycling arrangements
During the closure, residents have been directed to Churchfields Road Recycling Centre and, from January of this year, a limited weekend recycling facility at Waldo Road via the Baths Road entrance.
Although helpful, overall it’s been an inconvenience for many residents who can’t get to Beckenham, leading to fly-tipping and reliance on removal companies in Bromley to pick up the slack.
Bromley Council has not yet announced the precise reopening date but says it is currently targeting mid-November 2026.
