Living room carpet cleaned after hot water extraction

Here’s our step-by-step process:

Step 1: Inspection

Before we start, we inspect the carpet and use heat treatment to remove any loose fibres from the pile. This prevents further damage during cleaning.

Step 2: Vacuum

Dry particles make up most carpet dirt. Crumbs, bits of food, small pieces of plastic, pet hair, etc. The list is endless. We’ll use an industrial vacuum cleaner fitted with a power brush to remove the debris. Vacuuming also lifts the pile, which improves cleaning results.

Note: If you apply prespray before vacuuming, dry particles will clump deep in the pile and become harder to remove.

Step 3: Prespray

After vacuuming, we’ll apply a carpet-cleaning chemical prespray to separate the dirt from the pile.

We test the spray on a small patch of carpet to ensure it’s compatible with the material. Once we’ve confirmed it’s safe to use, we’ll spray a liberal amount of chemical onto the carpet from waist height, then let the solution settle for 15 minutes.

You can use several products, but we use Blaze – Performance Solvent Pre-Spray because it works quickly and removes tough legacy stains.

Step 4 – Agitation

Once the prespray is applied, we use a machine with a counter-rotating brush to agitate the pile into the backing. Agitation separates the dirt from the fibre, enabling extraction. Expect some stains to disappear during this step.

Step 5 – Extraction

With the dirt separated from the carpet and suspended in the cleaning solution, it’s ready for extraction. We add fresh, boiling water to an extractor with twin parallel vacuum motors to rinse the solution off the carpet, while simultaneously extracting the separated dirt.

The key is to go slowly over the carpet, with 4 – 5 dry passes for every wet pass to extract as much moisture as possible.

We only add fresh water to the extractor tank during this phase. Adding prespray to the tank will leave a residue on the carpet as it dries.

Step 6 – Post spot treatment

If we can’t remove a stain during the first pass, we repeat steps 3-5. We’ll add prespray directly on the affected area, agitate to separate the dirt, then go over the stain with the extractor. We repeat this process until all stains are removed.

Step 7 – Drying

Once all stains are removed, we’ll set up fans at either end of the room to blow air across the carpet. Ventilation helps ensure the carpet dries evenly and quickly.

Step 8 – Protecting your carpets

Keeping a light-coloured carpet clean can be difficult. Tea and coffee spills. Dropped makeup. Knocked-over milk bottles. Accidents are unavoidable in a busy home, but spillages shouldn’t lead to a stained carpet.

After cleaning your carpet, we can apply a stain protector that turns carpet piles into non-absorbent fibres. The treatment adds a protective layer to carpet and upholstery that prevents fibres from absorbing spills, giving you time to remove surface liquid before it stains.

Services

Domestic carpet cleaning

Our domestic carpet cleaning service is perfect for routine maintenance or a carpet refresh. If you’re noticing odours, stains and hard-to-clean dirt within the pile, let one of our trusted cleaning contractors breathe life into your textile fabrics.

If we have street-level access to your property, we’ll clean your carpet using our Prochem Blazer, truck-mounted steam cleaning system. The truck-mounted system is more powerful than a portable carpet cleaning unit.

Equipped with its own boiler, the system heats water to a high temperature, which kills bacteria in the carpet. It can also extract more water and dirt for a thorough clean.

You can pick between dry carpet cleaning and hot water extraction.

End of tenancy

Before you return the keys to your landlord or estate agent, you may need to hire a professional for an end-of-tenancy clean. This deep clean restores your property to its original condition.

You need to clean the bathroom, living room, bedrooms, and other areas of the property. If you have carpeted floors, we’ll clean them and remove all dirt, stains, and odours. You could lose part of your deposit if you don’t clean your carpets to a high standard before moving out.

Spot cleaning

We can remove specific stains without cleaning the entire carpet. Our spot cleaning service targets individual marks on your carpet or rug.

To clean isolated spots, we add 1 litre of water to a pump-action spray bottle, mixed with 3 millilitres of washing-up liquid and 30 millilitres of rubbing alcohol. We spray this cleaning solution onto the target area and slowly agitate with a handheld brush.

We extract the moisture with a wet and dry vacuum cleaner, repeating the process till the stain is removed. Finally, we use a clean towel to absorb any lingering moisture.

Commercial

Carpeted areas in offices, schools, rental properties and medical facilities require regular cleaning due to high footfall. Over time, particles and dirt embed in the carpet fibres, making them difficult to remove with a standard vacuum.

As part of your commercial cleaning contract, we’ll maintain the carpets in your business premises through a combination of hot water extraction, traditional steam cleaning and a technique known as dry carpet cleaning.

We use the dry carpet cleaning technique when carpet is glued to concrete in commercial premises such as warehouses or apartment blocks. The process uses very little moisture when cleaning, to avoid water running through the carpet onto the concrete below.

Odour removal

If you live in a carpeted property with small children and /or pets, you might notice odours from spilt milk and cat urine. If you’re looking for a solution, our carpet deodorising service can help remove offensive odours from your carpet.

Once we’ve cleaned and dried your carpet, we’ll apply a long-lasting, carpet-freshening deodorising powder across the floor, let it settle for 10 minutes, then vacuum to leave a freshly scented carpet free from odour.

Rug cleaning

If your rug has a large amount of dirt embedded within its fibres, we can take it offsite for a thorough deep clean at our offsite cleaning facility. The step-by-step process is similar to washing a carpet; however, we can use much more water to rinse away surface-level dirt and wash the rug in our industrial cleaner.
